For Christmas, I was in Saudi Arabia. If you are travelling through a strict Muslim country such as this, must adapt culturally; above all you must of your own tag – schedule around the times of prayer because while the faithful pray, rest their businesses.
As a digital Nomad, I therefore asked the iPhone app store to help and found an interesting program: the "Muslim Pro" app. It uses the most modern State of the art, to bring all the necessary information to devout Muslims:
Prayers: A search function or with the help of GPS localisation of current site including for valid times of prayer is determined.
Qibla: The compass of the iPhone is used to determine the location of Mecca. This is especially handy for Muslims to travel to determine the correct direction of their prayers.
Holidays: Not only that the most important Muslim holidays are listed – it can also from within the app a greeting card designed and then will be sent via SMS, email, Facebook or Twitter.
Places: While philosophizes in this country through business cases and real application scenarios for foursquare, it has here a tangible benefit: about the location based service to nearby mosques and halal restaurants identified.
A such app is even handy not only for Muslims but also for intercultural interested business – not least for already mentioned reasons. I have not found a similar innovative app of the Catholic Church – I am however thankful for feedback, answers, and comments.
