Visiting Neufelder See / Lake Neufeld in Burgenland

Neufelder See

Das Ufer des Neufelder Sees.

Summer is here, the Corona lockdown is gradually approaching its end – and we are now taking every opportunity to get away from the heated Viennese asphalt. One of the closest opportunities for this is Lake Neufeld (“Neufelder See”) in Burgenland. It is about 40 minutes away from Vienna by car.

What you can do at Lake Neufeld

Swimming is the most obvious activity one can do at a bathing lake. During our visit at the beginning of June, the water was still quite fresh, but if you are not afraid of it, you can cool off in the lake of Burgenland. There are also jetties where you can relax, as well as sunbathing areas and playgrounds.

There is also a small ice cream parlour, a snack bar and a long food stand. Starbucks has a branch for caffeine junkies. And for those who have forgotten their air mattresses or flip-flops at home, they can buy them in a shop for beach equipment.

Diving in Lake Neufeld

But the real sportive highlight of the Neufelder See is probably the possibility for scuba diving. For this purpose the Tauschschule Lorenc has its own branch at Lake Neufelder See, where various diving courses are on the program and equipment is rented. Nice service for non-divers: For a small fee you can also have your air mattress inflated here.

Camping at Lake Neufeld

From 1 May to 9 September, there is also a campsite open at Lake Neufeld, offering 33 parking spaces for tents and caravans (26 tent sites, 7 caravan sites) directly on the lake. At the local inspection this seemed quite droll. Sanitary facilities are also available. A downer: In the 2020 season, camping is only possible with a minimum stay of ten days. Booking and details can be found under this link.

Discounts: The Burgenland Card

Since a few days we are the proud owners of the Niederösterreich-Card, which unfortunately does not give any discount at the Burgenland bathing lake. On the other hand, we learned in this context that the Burgenland-Card exists, with which you get free entrance to the Neufelder See, among others. For Viennese who want to experience many adventures in the immediate vicinity this summer, both cards might pay off – although the offers partly overlap. More about the Burgenland-Card via this link
