Hiking in Austria: Lainzer Tiergarten in Vienna

Staying in Vienna and looking for a small fun-hike on the weekend? Well, then Lainzer Tiergarten is definitely a good place to catch some fresh air and clear your head.

Highlights of a hike in Lainzer Tiergarten include climbing on to Hubertuswarte and enjoying the view, eating Wiener Schnitzel in one of the restaurants and – if you’re lucky – watching wild boar!

The route: It’s impossible to get lost in Lainzer Tiergarten, since there are signs and maps (like the one pictured below) everywhere. There are also various ways to get there, one of them is taking the U4 until “Hütteldorf” and then entering via Nikolaitor (like we did – as pictured on the bottom of this post). The length of the hikes can be adapted to your personal preferences. If you have kids, there are playgrounds at some places (e.g. the restaurant Hirschgstemm). For lunch, stop by at Hirschgstemm, Rohrhaus or the rather poshy, but beautiful Hermesvilla.
